It’s Not About Winning..
It’s taking part. Isn’t it?
Eaglei is proud to announce that it has been shortlisted in The Scarborough News Business Awards 2015 Small Business category. I was contacted last week to be told the exciting news! Naturally I was, and still am, absolutely delighted. And why not? I, along with support from a number of Associates, have worked tirelessly for nearly two years to be the very best we can at what we do.
In addition to providing excellent service, we have established a positive reputation based on trust and integrity. So what does it mean to recognised by my peers in this way? An endorsement for a job well done yes; a congratulatory pat on the back to keep going yes; great publicity yes. But what does it really mean?
We all deserve some praise from others now and again. But, more than this, for me being a contender is all about self-recognition. One of the many rewards of running my own business is that it stands and falls by the principles, standards and values that I alone set for myself (and the business). I set the ‘bar’ at a high level and have certain expectations of myself. To lower these, is a compromise I am not willing to make; this is a reflection on me as an individual and something that I take very personally. No longer does anyone tell me what to do or when to do it by. I set the agenda and must carry out the actions arising from it. I go to sleep at night and ask myself not just if I had a good day, but whether or not I have fulfilled this personal ‘contract’ with myself. I’m pleased to say that, on the whole, I sleep fairly well!
So I will be present at the Awards Dinner on the 20 November. I will also be very excited! But, whatever the outcome on the night, I know in my heart that I have been true to myself and the beliefs I have about how I want my business to operate.
Good luck everyone!
